MATI LAFORGE
Mati Laforge is a weaver and textile artist based in Tiohtià:ke/Montréal. After training in fine crafts- textile construction – at the Centre des textiles contemporains de Montréal, she combines her artistic practice with political organizing and activist work.
Her work is shaped by reflections on the domestic sphere, reproductive labor, and feminist struggles aimed at recognizing and valuing work that has historically been devalued and made invisible. Drawing on traditional weaving techniques, she creates contemporary textile works by manipulating weft threads to form intimate compositions. The subtle, transparent fiber of nylon lies at the heart of her textile research: situated between the visible and the invisible, it reveals the forms of meticulous and precise labor.
